Brisbane band Halfway announce their much anticipated 4th album ‘Any Old Love’, a journey into the outback world of broken down jockeys, also-rans and bar room redemption.
‘Any Old Love’ is set in Barcaldine in the 1970’s and tells the tale of an injured former big-time jockey working on the Central Western Railway Line. Here he becomes increasingly estranged from his family as the lost dreams of champagne-soaked Group 1 winners lead him to the mighty Shakespeare Hotel. The camaraderie amidst the jukebox sounds of Freddie Fender and Tom T Hall offering comfort in this isolated outpost.
‘Any Old Love’ sees the return of esteemed Go-Betweens founder Robert Forster as producer having worked with Halfway on their previous record ‘An Outpost of Promise’. The band also attracted the ear of legendary Replacements producer Peter Jesperson who co-produced the album with new Halfway member John Willsteed. Halfway were formed in Brisbane a decade ago. The band has built up loyal followings both locally and overseas on the back of three critically acclaimed albums and countless live shows. Along the way playing coveted support slots for bands such as the Black Keys, Band of Horses, Richard Hawley, J Mascis and The Jayhawks.
In 2008, Halfway members John Busby and Chris Dale were awarded Queensland’s most prestigious songwriting award, ‘The Grant McLennan Songwriting Fellowship.’
Release Details: ‘Any Old Love’ will be released nationally on Plus One Records on 7 Feb 2014. Available on iTunes, Deluxe CD & 180 Gram Vinyl.
